Levitating Tomatoes

Like levitating tomatoes, take a deep breath and let it all out.

Diane Larsen was an artist from Victoria, BC. She created many fabulous  acrylic paintings especially of flowers close up.  Levitating Tomatoes was a bit different.

Diane developed MS, but as the disease progressed she maintained her ability to paint and eventually focused on detailed sketching.

Superficially, Levitating Tomatoes  looks chaotic with tomatoes ready to explode. The tension disappears if you focus instead on them hovering delicately above the bowl.

I’ve spent many hours contemplating and interacting with Diane’s  “Levitating Tomatoes”. They are  hung on the wall in front of my cycle trainer. That may not sound very invigorating for my workout but when I pause, sometimes I slowly juggle or play catch with them. It loosens my arms and shoulders and reminds me to relax and take a deep breath.
